Hey Girls,
I'm a hearing girl from South Dakota, your stories are breathtaking & although I have not had the same struggles as ya'll, but I have faced oppression, mostly because I'm Native American.
@Anna, if I had ever met you, I would have to be in awe because there aren't that many deaf people in my town, and every time I see someone in Wal-Mart or McDonalds I have to admit that I'm in awe, watching them sign back and forth to each other. I am in a ASL class in college, and it has opened my eyes to a brand new world! Soon I will be married to a Marine, and I have found that there are a lot of girls with Marine husbands who know ASL but I don't have a single deaf friend. I don't know much about the rules/etiquette, but I think that you girls are very strong!

Sincerely,
Michelle Two Hearts

Congratulations David. You are an amazing young man who is doing so much good. Keep it up. I know a young woman who was a deaf cheer leader, became a high school teacher, a wife and mother, then had a Chochlear Implant. We watched her struggle with her new found sounds and succeed.
Thanks again for the great things you are doing. May the Lord bless you.

i can totally relate to this because I myself have a hearing loss, and its hard for me to get accepted in my school so i tend to change the conversation and try to fit in the "normal kids" and not get discriminated, i even got a snobbish comment saying how can i speak so well if I have a hearing loss.

Dear joEllen,

I'm Tori and I'm 18 years old! I came across this website and started reading around and was surprised to hear that you live in TN too!! i live in franklin, TN! I'm a hearing student at Gate Communications. I'm currently taking ASL 1 but going into ASL 2. I plan to continue with Gate all through college and so on. Right now I'm really leaning towards becoming an interpreter. I have a heart for the deaf community and I'm learning as much as I possibly can about the deaf/hard of hearing culture! I really want to help reach out to deaf/hard of hearing teens!! I got really excited when I came across this website and especially your page!! I know I am fairly new to everything I would like to help out as much as I can! Do you have any tips/advice about how I could go about reaching out to deaf teens now??

Thanks!

I'm Aimee, a hearing mom to 5 children. Two of my four sons are Deaf. I spend most of my time blogging our journey, teaching parents how to advocate for their children, and just enjoying life for what it is. It's great to be here!

Hi, I read about the website in the AG Bell magazine and logged on immediately. I think this is a great website! My daughter has Ci since age 20 months. She is mainsstreamed, has lots of friends and doing very well. She is also bilingual. I forwarded this website to her. I am sure she would love to hear from some other hearing impaired teens.
