Welcome! We will be having more Parents on here soon and will be able to help answer questions. If you have any questions feel free to post them on here.
Great to see the website up. You have done a great job. I am looking forward to talking to other Parents about what we have gone through – and to ask questions when new challenges come up. Porter is only 10, but I am positive that the Parents who have done it before will help us out as we are faced with new challenges. Our current challenge is that we are moving from Indiana and the only school system Porter has known, to Virginia.
My daughter is 15. she (for now) does hear in both ears. I recently asked her why she has a sudden interest in asl. She has been interested in learning Japanese. She told me she’s been wanting to learn since her last trip to the dr. My brother has recently given her a book and been working with her on learning asl. She is gradually loosing her hearing. She has had 4 or 5 hearing tests done a within the past year. Each test is worse than the one previous. She has had an mri done. The dr. said that if her hearing is worse in 6 months, they will do another mri. We were told whatever will be will be. She can usually still hear when people talk in a normal voice. She has some difficulties in school because she is shy and doesn’t want to ask the teachers to repeat what they had said. I did talk to her teachers. I am so frustrated because as a parent I want to fix things. The Doctors aren’t cooperating.
It may or may not be connected but….My ex-husband had a gradual hearing loss in his early 20′s ? and he did go totally deaf in both ears for 6 months. His hearing did return. I told my daughters doctors about it. They just said that it is rare to regain hearing when it has been gone that long. We have no contact with him now to ask him any questions.
Hello, I would love to have my son’s blog connected to your site.
I also have questions for David Cluff about balance issues after CI surgery. Dr. Huller said he might have some answers to my questions. Thank you, Jen
I am a deaf parent of a hearing child. I hope I can be of help to all of you. I grew up being deaf since 21 months old and have used hearing aids all my life. Looks like a great site for info and support. I certainly hope it will grow to be very resourceful!!!

Hi, I read about the website in the AG Bell magazine and logged on immediately. I think this is a great website! My daughter has Ci since age 20 months. She is mainsstreamed, has lots of friends and doing very well. She is also bilingual. I forwarded this website to her. I am sure she would love to hear from some other hearing impaired teens.
I’m Aimee, a hearing mom to 5 children. Two of my four sons are Deaf. I spend most of my time blogging our journey, teaching parents how to advocate for their children, and just enjoying life for what it is. It’s great to be here!

My son is now 6 years old and been implanted for 1.5 years. We are now trying to get him into mainstreamed kindergarten.
